57Zn β-delayed proton emission establishes the 56Ni rp-process waiting point bypass

We measured the $^{57}$Zn $\beta$-delayed proton ($\beta$p) and $\gamma$ emission at National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory. find a half-life of 43.6 $\pm$ 0.2 ms, $\beta$p branching ratio (84.7 1.4)%, identify four transitions corresponding to exotic $\beta$-$\gamma$-$p$ decay mode, second such identification in $f p$-shell. The $p/\gamma$ was used correct for isospin mixing while determining mass via isobaric multiplet equation. Previously, it uncertain as whether rp-process flow could bypass textbook waiting point $^{56}$Ni astrophysical conditions relevant Type-I X-ray bursts. Our results definitively establish existence bypass, with 14-17% $rp$-process taking this route.
